JOTTINGS Answer t» Correspondent, “ There is no rule of racing governing the question you ask, but it js generally accepted that no one has the right to ask a secretary what horses have been nominated for meeting until the hour has passed for the closing ,of nominations, and, it would be unfair to owners who have_ nominated if a secretary supplied r this information. Jockey Fined. i, W. J. Broughton was fined £5 for improper conduct towards an official of the club after the decision of the Oroua Nursery Handicap at the Feildr ing meeting last week-end. Change of Name. Mr J. Richardson has been advised that the Racing Conference has agreed to the change of name of his Paladin— Spanish Maid gelding from Spark Plug to Palencia. Well-bred Youngster. ' ' Southland Candidates; If the Southlanders, Boswell, Sailing Lady, ahd Peony Rose, all winners over mile and a-quarter journeys, come to Wingatui for the principal handicaps this month they will command a strong following, and each should get some of the money. Costly Oversight. After the first forfeit was made for the Great Northern, Derby 33, three-year-olds, some of them still unnamed, were left in. Spelling. Not on account of her not being eligible; but because her owner never had any intention of racing her during the summer months, Capricious will make no attempt to qualify for the Wellington Cup. She is at present running out, and will not be taken up again until required for the autumn meetings. Keeping Up the Stakes.

The action of the For bury Park 'Trotting Club in maintaining the stakes for its summer meeting, to be held on January 25 and 27, at last year’s level, £4,750, will be appreciated by owners. The Programme Comniittee has yet to fix the classes, and it remains in its hands to draft an attractive pro : gramme.

A.Cheap Yearling. The four-year-old filly Night Eruption has won’ four races this season, and as they, have been worth £390 she has proved a good investment at the 40gs she cost her owner, Mrs L. C. Fait-, as a yearling. By Nightmarch, she is from Molten, by Paper Money from the Solferino mare Lava, who was a good mover when raced by Mr J. M. Samson.

Now Doing Stud Duties. Gay Circle, winner of seven races in Australia, has been sold by Mr G. J. Barton and is now doing stud duty in the Riccartba district. Gay Circle’s best performance in the Commonwealth was when he beat Bustard and a good field in the Victoria R. C. Handicap, and running the mile and a-quartor in 2min 3seo. Condolence. ’ Before commencing the business of the meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club last evening the Chairman referred to the loss the light harness sport in the Dominion ■had .suffered by the untimely death of Mr. E.‘ C. M'Dermott, and moved that a letter of ■ condolence be sent to Mrs M'Dermott and her son.

Melloray’s Progeny. ■ The Kilbrbney mare Melleray had three of her -progeny -racing at the Kurow ■ meeting^—Queen Dorothy, by Paper,.Money, by Iliad, and the' tjtfo-year-old Ifesi Efius, by Solici-tor-General. The latter, a gelding, is yet on the small side;, and was not nearly ready to show his true form, but he is a nice mover; and the race should sharpen him up for future engagements.

Complimentary Tickets,. • The rights of -owners and trainers to demand complimentary tickets was recently tested at a country meeting in Victoria. To-assert his right to a complimentary ticket as an owner, Mr R. Wilson, having been refused one, scratched his horse from the hurdle race. Under the Victorian rules of racing a reason for scratching horses within a certain time of the running of a race has to be given, and when the stewards held an inquiry into the scratching of this horse they were evidently not satisfied with the reason given and inflicted a fine of £lO. Manawatu Nominations.

The following nominations have been received for the principal races on the Manawatu Racing Club’s programme: Manawatu Cup, £750. One mile and a-half.—Windsor Chief, Contrepoise, Hunting-Cat, Colonel Bogey, Aurora’s Star, Anita Foe, The Buzzer, The Bigot, Scotland, Dainty Sue, Kena, Limbohra, Rarotonga, Wotan, Friesland, Du Manner, Play On, Mataroa, Silvanus, Tidewaiter, Charade, Siegmund, Raeburn, Trebor, Galteemore, LadyFurst. Fitzherbert Handicap, £250. Six furlongs.—Russian Ballet, Sleeveless, Laughing Lass, Ecstatic, Globe Trotter, Duncahnon, Flammarion, Night Eruption, Jeanne Rakahanga, Lord Cavendish, Amigo, Solaria.

A Good; Suggestion. - The sugegstion made at last evening’s meeting of the Forbury Park Club’s committee that a Free-for-All race should bo included in the club’s cup meeting programme will meet with general approval, and if adopted will ensure the presence of the best horses in commission coming to the meeting. Good horses mean good attendances, and good attendances good betting. The proposal to make the distance a mile and three furlongs is also on the right lines, as this would mean the start would he near the top of the straight and the field would have time to settle down before the turn out. A suggestion that the distance bo a mile and a-quarter, and for this race both the starting barrier and winning post be moved 100yds ,up the straight, did not find favour on the grounds that it would make the final run home too short. At Present in Australia. Bound Up, one of the top-weights in the Auckland Cup, was easily the bestperformed handicap horse in the northern province last season. Early in the season he won the King George Handicap, mile and a-quarter, under 8.13, the St. Andrew’s Handicap, mile and a-quarter, under 9.1, and followed up those two good performances by running second under 8.8 to Cheval de Volee 7.0 in the Auckland Cup. On the third day of the meeting Round Up won the Auckland Racing Club Handicap, mile and a-half, under 9.3, beating Mazir 8.12,- Arctic King 8.10, and a big field, including Cheval de Volee 7.13. In the autumn, Round Up, with 9.7, won the Ohinemuri Cup, mile and three furlongs, beating Golden Sheila 7.12 and a big field, and in April won the Foley Memorial Handicap, mile and a-quarter, under 9.13. In the Auckland Cup Round Up is set to concede 51 b to Golden Sheila and 221 b to Cheval de Volee. thus meeting the latter on the same terms as they met on in this race last year. Round Up is at present in Australia. '
