FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) licensincTbreaches. It was stated by the police that this was the first breach by the defendant in 14 years when William Leslie Buddicom, licensee of the Captain Cook Hotel, was charged with selling liquor after hours. A barman, James Hill, was charged with supplying liquor after hours The defendants, who were represented by Mr W. J. Meade, pleaded guilty. Sergeant Johnson, who prosecuted, said that on Sunday, November 19, at 11,30 a.m., when the police visited the Captain Cook Hotel they found two men in a private bar. _ Hill was a casual barman and admitted having supplied both of (he men with liquor. The licensee was absent at the time. The hotel had been well conducted. Mr Meade' said’ that the defendant Buddicom had given a standing instruction that no one was to be served after hours. , Hill was fined £3 and costs and Buddicom 20s and costs. Charles Bedford and Williain Simpson, who were charged with being unlawfully on the premises, were each fined 10s and costs. ■ ■ - James Stuart Ainger was charged with selling liquor after hours oh the licensed premises of the Southern Hotel, and Mary Elizabeth Ainger was charged with supplying liquor after hours, each pleading guilty. For permitting a chimney to catch fire James Ellis M'Kane was convicted and discharged. MOTORISTS DEALT WITH. For having no warrant of fitness Ernest Alfred Bennett was convicted and ordered to pay. Court costs (10s). Wallace Buff was fined 5s and costs, and Malcolm Williams 10s and Costs. For exceeding the heavy traffic hmit of 25 miles an hour Henry Turnbull was*fined 20s and costs. A charge against William Gorman of driving without care and attention was adjourned for three months, defendant being ordered to pay court costs (10s) and to attend such driving lessons as might be required. William O Fee,, who was similarly charged, was fined 15s and costs. ... For operating unlicensed wireless sets William Booth and Alexander William Clydesdale were each convicted without penalty, and John Augustus Kenneally was convicted and ordered to pay court costs (10s).
