The Saddle Race. Saddle races are popular at New Brighton, and the Electric Handicap (2.15) has attracted an interesting field. Lightning Lady, though on the back mark (24yds), is such a smart beginner that she is sure of a good P<psition early, and Aircraft and Bing Crosby may prove the hardest she has to beat. Won £4,220. Golden Sheila, who has been allotted 8.12 in the Auckland Cup, is, brilliant up to a mile and a-half, but whether she can stay two miles has yet to be found out. This season she has won the Spring Handicap (Ellerslie), the Hamilton Handicap, and Alison Cup, and her total winnings are £4,220. Golden Sheila is a six-year-old mare by Gay Shield from Madame Ruth. Chance to Make Amends. Great Don did not race well either day at Forbury Park, but to-morrow he will be racing over two miles at New Brighton, and, should, he repeat his Addington form (two miles in 4min 23 2-ssec) he would be hard to beat’in the Bowhill Handicap (4.35), in which he is on the 36yds mark. Mazaire will probably be the most troublesome of the others. Should Improve. Special Edition was unlucky in his race at Forbury Park last week, but registered 3min 19 2-ssec. To-morrow he has been assessed _ at 3min 28sec in the Wainoni Handicap (3.30) and, provided he gets a good run in the big field, should be hard to beat. Great Blaze, off the limit,, is likely to be favourite, and Lady Milne is an improving sort. An Interesting Meeting. In the Improvers’ Handicap (2.56) at New Brighton there will be an interesting meeting between Imperial Jade_ and Three Tens, both starting off the limit. The field is a big one, and it is to be hoped that these two three-year-olds will draw the front line, On account of her ability to begin smartly Imperial Jade is likely to be the better fancied. Club King is another that will also be fancied Riding Engagements. The following Riccarton jockeys have made riding engagements for the Kurow meeting;—C. T. Wilson, Flagman, Midguard, Blazealong; L. .1. Ellis, Queen Dorothy, Muscatine; P. Spratt, Lady Don, Epic, Master Dingle. John Emby, Miltiades; A. E. Ellis, Silver Streak; R. Beale, Twenty Grand (High-weight Handicap); M. Caddy, Philibun; R. J. Mackie, Travenna, Exult. To-morrow’s Trial Stakes. Of the 14 horses engaged in the Trial Stakes to be run at Oamaru to-morrow Don Roy is the only one that has run into a place this season, having finished third in a similar race at Ashburton last Saturday. He is by Roydon, arid was having his first start. Craiglea, Lord Ouyen, and Exult have each started four times, Sam Brown three times, Silver Don and Lady Constant twice, and Confident and Muscatine each once. Gold Don, who will be having his first start this season, finished second twice in six-furlong races last season, and the others. The Raker, Pink Gauntlet, Nisi Prtus, and Irish Colleen, will be making their first public appearance.
