NORTH 'OTAGO NOTES

[From Our Oamaru Correspondent.] PIPE BAND. The annual reunion of the North Otago Highland Ripe Band, on Saturday evening, was an enjoyable event, with an excellent attendance. Mr W. Couper presided and speakers to toasts were Messrs J. A. Macpherson, J. C. Kirkness, J. Branthwaite, C. J. Marshall, A. Nuttall, T. Gilchrist (Dunedin). J. Gerrie, C. Rollo, C. Nightingale, J. Christie, J. Mackenzie, Ser-geant-major M’Currie, Ripe-major G. Dickson, Messrs A. L. Familton, M. F. E. Cooney, D. Gillies, W. Gillies, L. Macrae, and N. Gibson. The entertainers were Messrs J. Macmillan, A. Baxter, A. Nuttall, W. Jackman, J. M'Lean, C. Campbell, G. Dickson, and G. H. Wilson. During the evening trophies were presented to the following:—Evans Cup (junior piping), Piper G. R. M'Donald; runner-up, Piper J. Patterson; Margaret Muir Cup (best attendance), Drum-major G. Doran 1, Piper I. Patterson 2; Bealey Cup, Drum-major G. Doran and Piper I. Patterson, equal; Supporters’ Cup, Piper N. Hill. CRICKET. The second series of matches of the North Otago cricket competition opened on Saturday. Union, first innings, 398 for eight wickets (J. Kinder .105, D. Papps 85, Doig 51, G. Geddes 33, W. Borrows 30, Rawstora 29, Reid 18) played Oamaru A. Albion, first innings, 232 (Hunt 84, Robinson 56, Harrington not out 28). Mallon took three for 41; Boyle tivo for 45. St. Kevin’s, first innings, 52. Geddes took four for 14; Firth two for 19; Robinson four for 13. In the North Otago Lawn Tennis Association’s competition on Saturday, Oamaru beat Awamoa by 15 matches to one. The singles resulted-A. heathers beat L. Walton 3-6, 6-3, 6-4; S. G. M'Dougall beat J. H. Mam 6-0, 6-0; Robson beat W. ARMISTICE DAY. The customary two minutes’ silence was observed in Oamaru on Armistice Day. The 1 Last Post ’ was sounded at the Great War Memorial by Two Waitaki High School hoys, and Mr D. S. Smith, accompanied by Messrs E. Cameron and A. C. Piper.'laid a wreath on the memorial on behalf of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. ’Yesterday morning a church parade at the Salvation Army Citadel was attended by returned soldiers, Girl Guides, Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and Highland Boy Scouts.
