WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Mosgiel Branch. The October meeting of the Mosgiel Institute was presided over by Miss Swallow. The motto was: “Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important,” and the roll call, “My favourite hobby.” A competition was held, also an amusing peanut hunt, after which all members took part in an impromptu debate. Miss Cate sang two solos, which were very enjoyable. Supper was served by Mrs Cooper and Miss MTntosh. Lawrence Branch. * The November meeting of the. Lawrence Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs Varcoe. The motto was:. “Friendship is the green hill by the side of life’s dusty road,” and. the roll call, “ What I would do with.£s.” Mrs Varcoe thanked all members for their help at the conference,' also Miss Hopkins for matin" the dress sprays presented to Miss Kane, Mrs Graham, Mrs Henderson, and Miss Cameron. Competitions resulted :—Cocoanut ice, Mrs E. Weatherall; best bloom, Mrs A. Weatherall. Miss Hopkins gave a few hints on Italian quilting. Hostesses for. the evening. were Mesdames Bell and Kennedy and. Miss Robertson.
