WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION
Dunedin Central Branch. The November meeting of the Dunedin Central branch was held on Tuesday last, Airs Hiett (acting president) presided, and conducted the opening devotional service. Correspondence was read from several Cabinet Ministers in reply to the union’s protest against wet canteens in military camps. It was reported from Wellington that two Otago competitors had come first and second in the Exhibition temperance poster competition. Satisfaction was expressed that the N.Z.W.C.T.U. has been allotted, free space at the Centennial Exhibition, where it is hoped the union will be able to do a great deal of temperance educational work during the six months of Exhibition activities. Mrs Fursdon gave a detailed report of the recent District W.C.T.TJ. Conference held in Dunedin. Mrs Hiett gave an address on the gambling evil, which showed the insidious effects of the habit on the moral outlook of the community. A vote of thanks was passed to Airs Hiett for her address.
