DAMAGES REDUCED
FIRE IN FLAX AREA [Per United Press Association.]. WELLINGTON, August 25. The legal battle over fire damage to the flax area at Mungaroa and WaTlaceville entered its final phase in tha Supreme Court, Wellington, last night, where, at midnight, a special jury awarded plaintiffs £1,044 damages and costs. Plaintiffs, as executors of the will of David Crightbn ' Martin, were awarded £2,750 damages plus £282 costs against the defendant, Sir Kenneth Douglas, baronet, solicitor, of Wellington, on a £5,000 claim heard in May, 1938. • The Court of Appeal later granted an order for a new trial on the question of damages only. “ The issue,” said Sir Michael Myers in summing up, “ was whether or not there was a crop of millabla flax on the property at the time of the fire, and what was its worth to plaintiffs, immediate or potential. ,r
