T .V- : - - - MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Hospital Board, held last night, was attended by Messrs J'. W. Dove (chairman), D. McLennan, A. Steel, R. Walls, A. F. Qnelch, Dr Newlands, Mrs C. A. Fraser, Mrs K. E. M‘Millan, and Mrs Walter Ross. RESIGNATION. Miss A. M. Morrison wrote tendering her resignation as matron of the Louisa Roberts Hospital, the reason given being the necessity for her immediate return to Australia.—Resignation accepted. WORKS APPROVED. The Director-General of Health wrote giving authority to provide a squash court at the Dunedin Hospital, also approving, of additions to the nurses’ home.—Received. MONTHLY STATISTICS. The Medical Superintendent reported that there were 335 patients remaining in the Dunedin Hospital on June 30. The patients admitted during July numbered 519, making a total of 854. The total number of discharges and deaths was 493, which left 301 patients in the institution on July 31. Accounts totalling £4,695 10s Id, due for maintenance at Dunedin and other hospitals in the district, were remitted. EMPLOYEES’ UNION APPROVED. The Hospital Boards’ Association of New Zealand wrote concerning the formation of the New Zealand Hospital Boards’ Industrial Union of Employees. The Chairman said that this was the result of the discussion which had taken place at the conference, when a desire had been expressed by the nursing profession for an award. The chairman formally moved that the board approve of the registration of the union, and that the Hospital Board become a subscribing member. The motion was carried. REPORTS. The reports of the Benevolent Committee, the Sanatorium Committee, tho Hospital Committee, and the Finance Committee were adopted without discussion, the chairman remarking that members would be pleased to note that a start had already been made in the matter of the additions to the nurses’ home, Dunedin Hospital. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted : —Supply of meat to various institutions, Messrs Barton Ltd.; supply of cream to Dunedin institutions, Dunedin Wholesale Milk Supply; supply of milk to Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, Mr Peter Walker; purchase and removal of kitchen refuse from Dunedin Hospital, Mr R. J. Todd; removal of ashes from Dunedin Hospital, Messrs W. Casey and Sons Ltd.; funerals, the Otago and Southland Funeral Directors’ Association; supply of bread, Dunedin institutions, Messrs J. R. Brown Ltd.; supply of bread to Wakari Hospital, Mr W. Taylor; supply of bread to Pleasant Valley Sanatorium, Mr A. M'Gregor and Mr H. F. Glover. Other tenders were received and referred to the Finance Committee to report.
