ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly executive. meeting of the Itoslyu and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was held last night, there being present Messrs P. L. Ritchie (in the chair), D. O’Connell, W. J. Bell, A. Ellis, P. Findlay, G. Laurenson, E. Sunderland, G. Dennis, and- A. C. Laing (secretary). The Chairman referred to the loss the committee had suffered through the death of Mr A. J. Allen, who had been for a number of years an active and able member of the organisation. A motion of sympathy with Mr Allen’s wife and family was passed. The Town Clerk advised that provision had been made for improvements to Ayr street, but the work could not be carried out this year. In response to a request for street widening in Ross street, the council regretted that funds were not available. This reason also precluded the carrying out of improvements to the junction of Oban and Walton streets. In replying to a request for alterations to the corner of Beta and Epsilon streets, the council advised that some maintenance work would be carried out in this locality, but, owing to the grade, it was not possible to make an ideal intersection. Some time ago the committee suggested that as the street lamps burned out the council should replace them with the type in use in Green Island. The council advised the association that there was no prospect of these lights being used in suburban areas at the present time, as a different circuit would be necessary before they could bo installed. Administration of a proposed road connecting the Kaikorai _ Valley road and Nairn streets was laid before the members, and after discussion it was resolved to send an amended proposition to be considered by the council. . Prior to the meeting Mr D. L. Ritchie showed films of the unveiling of the memorial tablet to Captains Scott and Oates, which stands at the corner of Oates and Falcon streets. Newspaper reports and pictures of the unveiling ceremony had been sent to Indy Knyvett, wife of the late Captain Scott, and to the sister of Captain Oates, and a letter was received from Lady Knvvett thanking the association for its kind thought.
