BUTTER EXPORTS

DRASTIC REDUCTION TOTAL DOWN 11,375 TONS RETURNS FOB PAST SEASON A drastic fall in exports of butter and cheese is shown ini Dairy Board returns covering the production year ended July 31. These figures show that butter output has mien by 17.8 per cent. from the record total for the 1936-37 season, while cheese production has declined by 5.3 per cent. . Monthly export figures for the past three seasons are compared below•

WORLD’S LARGEST EXPORTER. In spite of the unfavourable season, New Zealand still leads the world as an exporter of dairy produce, although Australia has had a larger share than usual of the .export trade to the United Kingdom; Imports into Great Britain from all sources for the first seven months of the past three years are given below:—

The board’s returns show that estimated stocks of all butter in London at August 1 were 5.000 tons lower than at the same date lost year, at 33,841 tons. COLOMBO TEA SALE Mr L. M. Wright has received the following cabled report on the Colombo tea auction of August 22: One million and a-half pounds were offered to buyers. Common grades remained firm, and medium and fine teas advanced slightly following improved quality of offerings. At next week’s sale, 1,600,0001 b has been catalogued for sale.
