[Per United I’kess Association.]
AUCKLAND, August ‘J3. On the score of expense, the Metropolitan Executive of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Council to-day decided to abandon as a centennial event the proposed re-enactment of Captain Hobson’s landing. A plea, by the Naval and Military Sub-committee for its retention was rejected, the mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) stating that it was with considerable reluctance that the recommendation for its abandonment had been made.
