AUCKLAND, August ‘J3. On the score of expense, the Metropolitan Executive of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Council to-day decided to abandon as a centennial event the proposed re-enactment of Captain Hobson’s landing. A plea, by the Naval and Military Sub-committee for its retention was rejected, the mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) stating that it was with considerable reluctance that the recommendation for its abandonment had been made. Colonel Dawson said the Navy would be very disappointed.
