The express which loft Auckland on Monday afternoon and whose passengers were transferred at Te Kuiti arrived empty at 2.11 this morning and yesterday’s 3 p.m. train was only 18 minutes late in arrival at 'Wellington. The Limited was an hour and 40 minutes late. Tho mail that arrived at Wellington at 2.14 a.m. was delivered this morning and the mails that left Auckland yesterday will be delivered this afternoon.—Wellington Press Association. CALIFORNIAN CLIPPER. News of the take-off of tho Californian Clipper from the harbour at 12.45 this afternoon was flashed to Auckland from Canton Island, the first stop on the flight. Eleven of the crew and 12 of the United States Government and Pan-American officials who are inspecting the bases are duo at Auckland on Tuesday afternoon, unless it is decided to prolong the stops at the bases.—Auckland Press Association telegram. In the Auckland Police Court Ted Cox pleaded guilty to striking the’ referee (Mr Jack M‘Lean) with his hand on the face during a wrestling contest with Blomfield on Monday night, and was fined 50s and costs (10«).—Press Association. August 23.—The Paris correspondent of the Havas News Agency says reports from Berlin state that the British Ambassador, Sir Neviil Henderson, is seeing Herr Hitler at Berchtesgaden today, bearing a message from Mr Chamberlain.
