“NO NEED FOR ALARM”
ST. GLAIR EROSION IN HAND PROTECTION NEVER SO WELL DONE “ I am surprised at the action of the St. Kilda Council in taking this step without having been in communication with me,” said Mr J. Wilson, chairman of the Ocean Beach Domain Board. Mr Wilson referred to the report of the council meeting last night, at which it was decidled to call a meeting to discuss the erosion that has taken place at St. Clair. 11 The board has the matter well in hand, and the public will have the use of the old, original footpath at the endl of the week,” he said. Ample protection was ensured by the use of sandbags, rails, 'and scrub, and, in fact, protection work had never been so well done as at the present time. The sand was now returning, and, given a fair wind, all anxiety would soon be allayed. .... , , “ The sea is just'taking away what we have built up,” ,be continued. “It will not be long before we will remake what the sea has taken. There is really no occasion for a meeting at all in regard to the position. Had there been any need for alarm I would have called the board together before this. I was closely in touch with the matter, and with the foreman in charge of the work, and hadl it _ been necessary I would have acted immediately.”-
