INTERISLAND EXPRESS, The interisland express steamer Rangatira arrived at Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.40 this morning. Passengers and mails for the south connected with the express. She will leave on Thursday, is due at Auckland on Monday, wil sail the next day, and is duo at Sydney on September 2. Wanganella left Auckland on Friday, arrived at Sydney to-day, will leave ■there on Friday, and is due at Wellington on Tuesday next. She will leave on August 31, is due at Sydney on September 4, and at Melbourne on September 6.

Monowai arrived at Auckland yesterday from Suva, and sailed to-day for Sydney (due Saturday). Niagara is to leave Sydney on August 31, and is due at Auckland' on September 4. Mariposa is duo at Auckland on September 1 from Suva, and will sail the same day for Sydney (due September 4) and Melbourne (September 8). She will leave Melbourne on September 11 and Sydney on September 15, and is due at Auckland on September 18. According tr> the list of maritime casualties published by the Bureau Veritas, during April the names of 40 steamers (including sailing vessels fitted with auxiliary engines), of 77,535 tons gross, were removed from the register, together with those of three motor ships (including sailing vessels fitted with auxiliary motors) of 1.183 tons gloss, and one sailing vessel of 449 tons gross. The causes of withdrawal were as follows;—Steamer, wrecked 5, collision 1, firo 4, foundered 5. abandoned 1, broken up 24; motor ships, wrecked 1, collision 1, broken up 1; sailing vessels, fire 1. Sailing vessel: Italian 1, The 24 steamers broken up during April had a gross tonnage of 58,141, and comprised 8 American (20,414 tons gross), 8 British (11,874), 2 Greek (8,843), 2 French (6,678), 1 Dutch (5.789), 1 Japanese (3,651), 1 Estonian (454), and 1 Brazilian (433). One British motor ship (133 tons gross) was broken up, but there were no sailing vessels withdrawn from the register from that cause. ARGENTINE SHIPPING. Arrivals at Argentine ports in the first four months of the year totalled 820, of 3,097,751 tons, compared with 790 arrivals of 2,989,569 tons in the corresponding period of 1938, an increase of 30 ships and 108,182 tons. The British flag headed the list with 200 arrivals of 928,783 tons, followed by Germany with 63 of 316,602 tons, and Greece with 80 of 222,567 tons. The British quota is down over 1938 by 23 ships and 84,872 net register tons, and Germany also shows a drop of 32 vessels and 70.827 tons.
