ARCHITECTS CO-OPERATE

OTAGO'S CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL FINAL PLAN FROM SIX DESIGNS Provided that the Otago Centennial Committee approves of the plan, the memorial at Signal Hill is to be erected from specifications embodying ideas drawn from the six best designs submitted by members to a committee of the Otago branch of the New Zealand Institute of Architects. Before the plans are drawn members of the branch are to visit the hill to decide on the location of the memorial. They are working in full co-operation with the city engineer (Mr S. G. Sconlcr) and also with the city electrical engineer (Mr G. T. Edgar) over the facilities for floodlighting the structure. The president of the Otago branch (Mr H. M'Dowell Smith) said to-day that no better situation for the structure could be obtained, and in addition there was the further virtue to commend the scheme of a perfect view of the city and the sea and landscape beyond it.

The practical interest being taken by Dunedin architects in the memorial, said Mr Smith, was the result of a desire by them to assist in whatever way possible in commemorating the centenary.
