RICCARTOH TRACK WORK GOOD GALLOPS BY LORD MIDAS CHARADE JUMPS WELL [Special to tub ‘ Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. , A sharp frost interfered with work at Eiccarton this morning. The ground was very hard, and trainers were late in making a start. Later the course proper provided good galloping ground, while the steeplechase fences oh the course proper were available for schooling. Mittie and Lady Tinkle were the first to gallop, sprinting half a mile in oOscc, Jan Ridd and Merry March went five furlongs in Imin ssec, and Dictate and (Roy Bun six furlongs in Imin 17 2-ssec, the last four in 51 2-ssec. Lady Middleham and Knight Commander took Imin 18 3-ssec. Racewell led Trasemenc over half a mile in 51sec. Royal Rank started with them, but Jest his rider. Wrecker took 52 l-ssec for half a mile, Montessa taking 53sec. St. Cloud and Fascinator went half a mile in 51sec, time that Pink Dress and Great Memory equalled. Trench Fight covered seven furlongs in Imin 30sec, the last four in 51scc. Settlement and prudent Prince went half a mile in 50 3-ssec. Phenomenal, Ohmaka, and Gay Rebel took Imin 20sec for six furlongs. Skyrena led Straightdel over an easy five furlongs in Imin 8 3-sscc. Wagner went a mile in Imin 45 3-ssec. Nightdress beat Waitaka over seven furlongs in Imin 30 3-ssec. Konneta beat Haughty Winder over the same distance in Imin 32sec. Flame Queen broke away from Land (Raid at the five furlong post, running the distance in 2min 4 2-ssec. Land raid did the last half-mile in 50sec. Blue Coat drew out in the last furlong to beat Grey Night by over a length over half a mile in 50 l-ssec. Grey Night earlier had bolted and run down the straight. Good Health and Coastline were well matched over half a mile in 53sec.

Spanish Lad was a neck in front of Nigger Boy over six furlongs in Imin 17 2-ssec.

Screamer gave Palo Alto a start, beating him over half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Lord Midas beat Rex Maitland by a neck over half a mile in 49 3-ssec, the best effort of the morning. Dancing Flame went six furlongs in Imin 21 l-ssec.

Strip and Boloyna did a working gallop. R. W. Savage suffered injuries to his shoulder when Uncle Jim crashed into the sod wall near the nine-furlong post, and was taken to the hospital for attention.

Culverden (A. Leach) and Uncle Jim went out to school the steeplechase fences on the course proper. Culverden jumped the sod wall nicely, but Uncle Jim slipped and fell heavily. Culverden was then pulled up and given a working gallop on the grass. Travenua (R. J. Maekie) and Dividend (A. Stove) were companions over six hurdles. Travenna showed greater speed, but Dividend gained ground at the last obstacle in a smart display. Agog (6. B. Craddock) and Aussie Ra (A. E. Lord) set off for a round, but Agog ran off at the second hurdle, taking Aussie Ra with him. They jumped the next two, when Aussio Ra was pulled up, Agog going over one more flight alone. Agog’s showing was poor Colonel French (T. Boyle) and Last Link (W. E. Shaud) were well matched over four hurdles. Begorrah (C L. Kerr) and Export (A. Jenkins) jumped six hurdles. There was no pace on until the last two, which • they flew in good style. Begorrah was inclined to be slow at the jumps. Peter Beckford (C. L. Kerr) and Charade (A. Jenkins) gave an excellent exhibition over six hurdles at a sound pace. Charade in particular jumped in great style. Padishah and Gold Wren were to have schooled on the course proper, but their work was postponed till the afternoon. Yours Truly has been sore this week, and will return home without racing.
