The railway companies have offered to meet representatives' of the locomotive engineers and firemen to discuss claims for pay increases of Is a day, with 12 instead of six days’ annual holidays, which were previously rejected. A strike threat would involve 53,000 railwaymen. Concession of the full claims would cost the companies £1,269,000 a year.
