WAKARI DRAINAGE WORKS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—" Not Spoon-fed " is evidently not satisfied with, the comfortable coach which is "provided to transport him to the Wakari housing scheme. Not being able to get up to the hut door, he wants thigh boots to finish the journey in. Photographs between the teacups would be interesting, too, when " Not Spoon-fed's " offsider is up with the dixie to collect a tew cups for the benefit of the builders' labourers nearby. " Not Spoon-fed" is evidently not a financial member of his union, or he would have its support to enforce all the conditions which he lacks in his daily avocation. As for firewood to keep the.home fires burning, plenty of old, discarded posts are lying about, and the discarded wire will be used in future to keep " Not Spoon-fed's " batman away from the teapot before the drainage boys arrive to have their regulation cup of the tea morning and afternoon. If "Not Spoon-fed" has not up to the present received his morning tea from the boss as his right I dare say the drainage boys will send it to his barrow handle for him for the small charge of 4d a week.—l am, etc., J ' P. MIBKELBtJKJf. July 24. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln reply to " Not Spoon-fed," it was only a photograph at lunch, time of the men, who are spread out over a number of chains at their work, and would be difficult to cram clearly in a photograph. Secondly, it is quite simple to keep the fire smoking, as there are innumerable small blocks of wood cut off by the tradesmen, and a good cup of "mike" is worth its weight in gold in the cold weather. Thirdly, if some of the men working in a 9ft trench with water dripping in on top of them could make "Not Spoon-fed's " acquaintance he would find out that they could supply gumboots to a place he would not like. Hoping he will make a little investigation next time before rushing into print.—l am, etc., July 24. Chronic Nag.
