AIR WAR SOON STALEMATED Press Association—By Telf-prapti—Copyngbi LOS ANGELES, July 21. (Received July 22, at 3.35 p.m.) Sir Keith Smith, before leaving Monterey, stated that Australia was being prepared as a major source of munitions supply for Britain in the event of war. He added: “ Having just come from Europe, I can tell you the position is definitely very critical, but England is now quietly confident that she can handle the situation if it comes.” He expressed the opinion that while the first attack on British and French cities would be terrible, so many Nazi squadrons would be expended that the air war would soon become stalemated to a point where the British fleet and the French army would exert telling pressure.
