ICE SKATING
CHAMPIONSHIPS AT ALEXANDRA (From Our Reporter.) Bright sunshine and windless conditions with excellent ice prevailed for the New Zealand ice skating championships at the Manorburn Dam this afternoon. Over 800 spectators were present to watch the graceful evolutions of the competitors, while large numbers of skaters thronged the ice in the various bays away from the virgin ice where the competitions were held. They were conducted by the Central Otago Winter Sports Club under the auspices of the New Zealand Ice Skating Assocaition, this being the first occasion on which the championhsips have been held. Results:— Ladies’ Figure Skating.—Misses Cameron (281 points) 1, O’Kane (26i) 2, Hall (24) 3, Mrs Gilkison (221) 4. Three-quarter Mile.—Mrs Gilkison 1, Miss Jones 2. Time, 4min 20sec. 440 Yards.—Miss Jones 1, Mrs Gilkison 2, Miss Weir 3. Time, 45sec. Men’s Figure. Robertson (305 points) 1, Hjelmstrom (28) 2, Rivers (24i) 3, Govern (22i) 4. One Mile and a-half.—Symons 1, Hjelmstrom 2, Lott 3. Time, Gmin 55sec.
