NEW CALL TO THE NATIONS.

The message of moral rearmament is so deep and vital, yet .simple, that it is readily understood by all who have given it consideration. Its sponsors claim that it is the triumph of a Godgiven thought—the answer to the crisis that is threatening civilisation. 'The rapid spread of the campaign throughout many countries seems to indicate that it is being spontaneously recognised as a movement which promises to guide mankind into a true and practical appreciation of internationalism and bring about a universal spirit of goodwill. Thu manner in which the leaders of the nations are taking it up is distinctly encouraging, for it should help to give them the power and the will to correct past mistakes as far as possible and create the atmosphere of sincerity anti trust which must be regarded as essential if the world is to be saved from chaos. Many famous overseas names are associated with this great reawakening to those ancient truths on which the strength of demo-

racy, is built, anil it is pleasing to note that the Prime Minister of New /calami (Mr M, ,T. Savage) and the Premier of New South Wales (Mr li. S. Stevens) arc among the leaders in this part of the world who have sent goodwill greetings to the moral rearmament assembly being held in Hollywood. The “ call to the nations,” published in this issue and bearing innumerable other notable signatures, is worthy of study by every citizen in our community, for the movement can bo given telling impetus only if it is supported by tho hearts of the people. Apart from giving personal happiness, moral rearmament is clearly, as is claimed in tho message, the secret of peace. It offers the one sure hope of peace betwen nations—a constructive plan that issues from common obedience to a supreme plan. Jn Great Britain, tlio United States, tho Scandinavian countries, Holland, Belgium, ami many other nations in Europe loaders and largo groups of people are working wholeheartedly in the cause, realising as they do that the underlying strength of tho world most bo based on the moral fibre of its citizens. President Roosevelt has stated that a programme of moral rearmament for the world cannot fail to lessen the danger of armed conflict, and Mr Cordell Hull, American Secretary of State, has declared that the time is ripe and the need urgent fur a renewal of the former high standard of conduct of both individuals and governments. These and other opinions of national leaders were incorporated last month In a speech delivered in tho United States Senate by the Hon. Hurry S. Truman. The fact that the campaign is now being discussed by members of legislatures shows how it is gaining ground as a practical solution of world problems.
