APPEAL TO CITIZENS

AVlui L can you do to help your Territorial Force ? Officers and men giro their time and energy willingly, but they will work all the more happily tor a liltlo recognition and a little apyrociation of their public-spirited eftorts. The Territorial Force to-day is an important essential part of the community. How can you help? IF you are an ordinary citizen, peace-ful-minded, anxious that this country should not go to war, yet prepared to fight for a few essential things, study the facts, study the cable news, and see what a comparatively peaceful corner wo live in in New Zealand, thanks to our membership of the British Commonwealth. Remember our obligations as members of that Commonwealth and of the League of Nations, and consider whether our small, volunteer army is unjustified and unnecessary; and consider further whether, in this small citizen army we have not achieved just that type of military force-which conforms to the ideals and needs of the League of Nations. If, as a sane New Zealander, you agree with this conception of our Territorial Force, and you cannot but agree, then do your share to help it. A volunteer army is dependent cm the spirit of service, not only in the fit, keen men who join up. but in the community-backing which they must have. Do your share. -If you are a private employer, take an active interest in the members of your staff who undertake this extra duty in their leisure hours to ' safeguard your interests and -your country. A good territorial is seldom a bad workman. A young man whose latent qualities of leadership are developed as a non-commissioned officer, may have tho makings of a foreman or otherwise be capable of taking charge of vther men. Our territorials are training for homo defence, to maintain the comfort uul security of the women of New Zealand. Give them your valuable support in doing a job which is worth while, takes up a deal of their leisure and which, in an emergency, means that they will be'-tho most important, and essential section-of the community.' If all the men and all the women of this' Dominion, support' and encourage our volunteers, we shall have the right type and the necessary number of men, adequately trained as leaders. If we have these territorials now, the. emergency for which they are preparing may held off. You can all help, if you will.
