DISCUSSIONS WITH RUSSIA.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —“ Popoffski,” whose pseudo-, nym is presumably intended to remind us of the opening of a soda water or beer bottle and the gaseous discharge that follows, has, despite this peculiarity, written. .a very: interesting letter. Ho seems to know many things about Government and peoples-. Would he mind answering one or two questions?' Have all Labour Govermente been good and all Governments of any other kind been bad? He makes a remarkable statement about Mr Hamilton and n certain company, but a friend has told me that the company concerned had given- a reply to the story that exonerated thorn and him completely from any accusation of sponging on the Government. Has, “ Popoffiski ’’ ever heard of or seen that reply? Would lie kindly let me know if such a reply was ever made, and. if so, what the replv was?—l am, etc., INQUIRER. July 20.
LABOUR’S NEW CULTURE. TO Tan EDITOR. Sir,—•- correspondents on this topic seem to. have vanished. I wish they would explain how love of my, neighbour ever came to demand that he possess no more wealth than I do. or how it is that .this-new culture is said by some to be 'based on Christian love, while others say it is based bn principles found in Marx’s historical materialism. ; But Old-timer ’■* has a simple Christian . faith in the Bible and attributes! bur social evils to the selfishness of man. Surely he will inform me in what way Labour’s new, culture abolishes or destroys these evils* Does it do so by making the selfishness cease to exist? Or how does it do it?—l am, etc., Senex. July 20,
