WOOLWORTKS LTD. PREFERENCE DISTRIBUTIONS Preference dividends for the halfyear ended July 31 have been declared by Woolworths (Sydney) as follows: 5 per cent, on paid-up 10 per cent, profs.; 3$ per cent, on the paid-up 7 per cent, prefs. COMMERCIAL BANK OF SYDNEY The Commonwealth Banking Company of Sydney Ltd., has advised the Stock Exchange Association that transfer books will be closed from August 1 to 11, both clays inclusive. BRICKS AND MORTAR DIVIDEND Bricks and Mortar Limited, Sydney, has advised the Stock Exchange Association that a final dividend of 2 per cent., if approved by the shareholders, ■will he paid on July 31. Transfer books ■will be closed from July 29 to 31. MINES AND METALS MOUNT MORGAN DIVIDEND INTERIM PREFERABLE PAYABLE An interim preference dividend . (the third) at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum, in Australian currency, for the six months,ending August 15, has been recommended by the directors of Mount Morgan Limited, Queensland. Payment win be made on August 15. The dividend is payable wholly and exclusively from the profits of the company earned from gold mining operations in Queensland. REPORTS AND RETURNS ALEXANDER MINES The manager of the Alexander Mines reports as follows on operations during the week ended July 13:— No. 6 Level.—Sloping has been continued on the north end of the, quartz above this level. The position of the reef shows considerable faulting. Reef continues to lay fairly flat. No. 5 Intermediate.—A cross-cut was driven into the eastern wall by 19ft to connect with the rise from No. 6 level. The country was fairly wet and broken. No. 5 Intermediate drive North.— This drive was advanced I6ft, making a total of 256 ft north of the winze. The advance was made on the reef. Track is carrying a fair amount of water, with a few quartz leaders. Stoping has been in operation north and south of winze. The average width of all faces worked was 4ft 9in. During the period 120 tons of stone were transported to the battery.
