HEAVY TRAFFIC ANTICIPATED ARRANGEMENTS FOR CONTROL ROADS TO BE PATROLLED Arrangements for controlling the traffic on the roads on July 29, the day of. the Qtago-Southland match at Invercargill, have been made by. the. Transport Department. ' ' t A comprehensive scheme of. patrol, in which will be co-operated the services of traffic officers of the Transport Department, patrol officers of the Automobile Associations of Otago and of Southland l , and ambulance of the divisions of St. John Ambulance, will be put into operation, those taking part having united in: an effort to obtain a smooth and accident-free record upon the occasion of this popular fixture. .

, The traffic officers comprising the en- . tire staff of the No. 4 transport district will police not only the Main State Highway between Dunedin and Invercargill, but also the road north of Dunedin as far aa .Oamaru, the Central highways, and various of the Southland highways converging with the North road, Invercargill. Their main-object will be to see that motorists using these roads are able to do so with safety and pleasure, and they seek the- co* operation of all motorists in attaining this 1 end. The Automobile Association’s patrol officers will also cover these roads, their main object being to see that every assistance is given to motorists in oases of mechanical trouble; or breakdown. Brigade members of the St. John Ambulance Association, in addition to being conveyed in company with the A.A. patrol officers,, will. ba : stationed at’ vantage points along the highway, and where possible these men will be grouped in pairs. In the event of mishap or accident, these officers will render every assistance possible to the injured.' / Up till this year the exceptional traffic conditions experienced in attendance, at the Rarifurly Shield fhatchea held at both Invercargill and Dunedin have been free of accidents/.and it behoves every motorist to aid those associated with the control and-regulation and as- s distance of traffic in seeing that there are no accidents this year. Certain sections of the 1 highway between Ba 1clutha and Gore are under reconstruction, and in several places where large fills are being made there is only room for one-way traffic, and the assurance of the district engineer, Dunedin, has been given that every effort will be made to ensure that the road along this sectipn will be negotiable and safe. Motorists are reminded that on July 20 the new _ provisions requiring compulsory dipping of headlights come into, force. Co-operation is sought in .this matter, and motorists are asked to dip their lights not only to approaching, traffic, hut. also in close procession behind other cars.' ■ . PARKING OF CARS; In addition to the Southland Police Force and. the numerous traffic inspectors, a platoon of the Southland Regimental Cycle Corps and also the Legion of Frontiersmen will be on duty on the dav of the match to control trnffio and the parking of motor vehicles. , Heavy traffic is expected from all parts of Otago and Southland. The Invercargill City Council has set aside a special parking area for visitors from the Otago district, and the - mayor specially requests that operators of Southland motor traffic keep clear of the parking lines reserved for the Otago visitors. Motorists from Otago will enter Invercargill via the Dunedin-Invercargill highway, along the East road and Tay street, and will turn to the left at Ness, street and continue to Tweed street. The first arrivals will park on both sides of Ness street and on’ towards Tay street. In addition, the following intersecting streets between. Elies road and Ness street can bo utilised:—Tyne street, park on the south side; Forth ' street, park on both sides. Angle, of park, head in at 45deg, . Southland motorists will be able to park cars on all streets in the vicinity of, Rugby Park’other than those allotted to, Otago visitors, taxi stands, and “ no park” areas. To distribute, traffic on the street# motorists going south along Dee street to Rugby Park would be well advised to continue along Clyde street, then turn at Tweed street and proceed until they reach the available parking places. Taxi drivers are specially requested to embark or disembark passengers ’ on. the special taxi stand allotted for that purpose on the north side of Tweed street; and to avoid right-angle turning drivers should endeavour to arrange ••their operations so that the taxis arrive at the stand in Tweed street and depart north along Elies road. ‘
