IMPORTANT DAY TO-MORROW RUGBY FINALS To-morrow will be a regular gala day for sport, with the Rugby premiership likely to be settled or a new and even more exciting alignment corrie to; and with a full roster of other sport. likely with the return of good weather. The crucial Rugby matches will be handled at some length. Union (with eight wins in a row) meet Southern in what many “ fans ” hold will be the championship final; but Kaikorai meet Pirates, and if there is an upset in the former game this latter encounter may have an important bearing.
At Invercargill the Otago subunions Rugby side meets, the Southland Sub-unions.
At Wingatui the Otago senior and junior cross-country championships will be held. Twenty teams and 127 runners are taking part in the race, which will be specially covered for the ‘ Sports Special ’ by one of New Zealand’s best athletics experts. Another article in the ‘ Do You Remember?’ Rugby series will recall thrills of yesteryear, and our Rugby writer will discuss lessons derivable from the Town-Country game and the prospective Otago team for the Ranfurly Shield.
Considerable interest will attach to an article dealing with athletics in South Africa, comment being furnished by the British Empire marathon champion, Johnny Coleman.
“ Nestor’s ” cricket special this week is ‘ Heads You Win.’ and analyses the advantages of the toss, while Charles Whitcombe, our famous golf contributor, writes on ‘ Long Shots from Cuppy Lies— Spoon or No. 1 Iron.’ Race meetings to be covered are the South Canterbury and Rangitikei Hunt Clubs.
A widely; varied and engrossing page of general reading will include * Ernie, the Safe-cracker,’ the story of a remarkable talent; ‘Amazing Records of the Quakers ’ (by L. The issue, carrying a host of illustrations, will be sold on the streets to-morrow night from 7 o’clock.
