COAL SUPPLIES
PRODUCTION IN WARTIME BRITAIN'S COMPREHENSIVE PLANS (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, July 17. In view of the vital importance of coal in war time comprehensive plans are being prepared in consultation with those concerned for the maintenance and production of coal in war time and the control and distribution and price of coal, coke, and manufactured fuel. Outlining the plans in the House of Commons, Mr Geoffrey Lloyd, Undersecretary for Home Affairs, said the control of supplies and pithead prices would be exercised through existing coal marketing schemes, and arrangements had been made to deal with the control of supplies in consuming districts as well as at the point of production. A system of priorities would be established to ensure supplies of coal for essential industries, and a scheme for regulating the supplies of coal, gas, and electricity to domestic and other small consumers would _be administered through local authorities. The necessary officers had been appointed, and the organisation could, if required, be brought into immediate operation.
