[From Oub Oamako Correspondent.] HOSPITAL BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Waitaki Hospital Board was held yesterday, Mr W. Forrester presiding. Reports were received as follows: s Oamaru Hospital; Admissions 84, discharges 87, died 3, remaining at end of month 73, operations 52, outpatients’ visits 255, daily average of inpatients 77.35. Victoria Home; Admissions 5, discharges 6, remaining , 21. Kurow Maternity Hospital: Admissions 7, discharges 4, remaining 3. It was agreed that the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee should receive the 6s a day a patient under the social security scheme, and l collect the balance from the associated boards, rather than the hoards receiving the 6s. Correspondence was received from the Health Department and the Hospital Boards’ Association regarding the social security scheme. _ , . A donation of £2 for the Victoria Home was received from the Misses Fenwick (Maereweka). ROTARY CLUB. ■ The principal speaker at the weekly luncheon of the Oamaru Rotary Club was the Rev. J. E. Penman, of Dunedin, who spoke on the duty of citizens in the way of voluntary public service. He paid a tribute to the civic spirit of those who had made Oamaru such a beautiful town. i BADMINTON. net, 37 points ; 2; K. Halvorsen, cornet, 35 points, 3. MAGISTRATE'S COURT. The weekly sitting of the Oamaru Magistrate's Court was begun yesterday before Mr H. Morgan, S.M. For taking guns and dogs into a game sanctuary at Lake Ohau, Leslie George Wood, Thomas Wheelwright, Edgar Bruce Souter, and Allan Mayfield were e.ach convicted, and ordered to pay costs (10s), solicitor's fee (10s 6d), and witnesses' expenses (3s 2d)., The Magistrate said none of tho defendants was illegally taking game. They were genuine campers, and were quite likely acting in good faith. The circumstances did not call for any penalty other than payment of costs. For ridjng bicycles without lights, David Donaldson, Joseph Valentine, and Norman M'Leocl were each fined 7s 6d and costs (10s). For exceeding the maximum load on a lorry the New Zealand Express Company was fined £1 10s and costs (10s). For permitting cattle to wander on the Pukeuri-Kurow road, John Meikle was fined £1 and i costs (10s). THE WEATHER. In the 24 hours to 9 a.m. yesterday, 54 points of rain fell in Oamaru, making a total of 135 points for the month. While tho weather in Oamaru yesterday was cold and wet, there, has been no snow. A steady rain was falling this morning. There have been light falls of snow in the back country.
