FARMING COSTS
IMMEDIATE REDUCTION ESSENTIAL [Per United Press Association.] ASHBURTON, June 13. About 400 farmers to-day attended a meeting called by the Mid-Canterbury provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union to consider farming problems. The Dominion president (Mr W. W. Mulholland) addressed the meeting. The following resolution was carried;— “ This meeting believes that the only sound policy of improving the lot of the farmer lies along the line of reduced costs. With that end in view, we are of opinion that the work of the Royal Commission on sheep farming should be pushed rapidly forward. Should reductions fail to materialise prior to the next export season, we will then stronglv support the freeing of the exchange" as a medium of bringing about a more balanced economy.” An amendment to delete the reference to the exchange was lost. The motion was carried by a huge majority, a few not voting.
