ARTHUR ROSSER CASE

LABOUR PARTY DISCIPLINE ! MOVE FOR REINSTATEMENT [Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 13. A decision to appeal directly to the National Executive of the Labour Party against the expulsion from the movement of Mr Arthur Rosser, one of the oldest members of the party in Auckland, by the Labour Representation Committee was made at the monthly meeting of the Epsom branch of the party. Sir Rosser is president of the branch, and it is understood that he handed- in his resignation at the ilieeting, but it is stated that he was ultimately persuaded not to proceed with his resignation. Disciplinary measures were adopted against Mr Rosser for opposing Labour candidates at the municipal elections in 1938 after he had been-rejected as a candidate at the ballot. The discussion at the branch meeting last night was protracted, and it is believed that-resentment was expressed at the action of the Labour Representation Committee in neglecting to consult the branch before talking drastic steps. Sympathy for Mr Rosser was expressed in view of his lifelong service to Labour.

Support for Mr Rosser has also come from tho Clothing Trades Union, of which ho is a former president. This organisation some time ago suggested to the Prime Minister (Mr Savage) that Mr Rosser should be given a seat in the Legislative Council in recognition of his long service to the. Labour cause, and at a recent meeting its members resolved to support any action the Epsom branch might take in his defence. _ The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Savage protesting against the action of the Labour Representation Committee, and requesting that it should not bo allowed to interfere in any step contemplated by the New Zealand Labour Party j.u doing honour to Mr Rosser.
