ARCHBISHOP O’SHEA
PUBLIC WELCOME AT WELLINGTON [Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 13. A public welcome to Archbishop O’Shea, S.M.. Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, who returned to Wellington on Saturday’ from his ad Jimina visit to Rome and trip overseas lasting over nine months,, was hold in the Wellington Town Hall this evening. A distinguished gathering of prelates and public men paid tribute to the archbishop. The Town Hall was filled practically to capacity. The mayor of Wellington (Mr T. C. A. Hislop) presided.
Speeches were made by the Prime Minister (Mr Savage); tho Administrator of the Archdiocese during Archbishop O’Shea’s absence, Monsignor T. F. Conolly, on behalf cf the clergy; Mr J. G. Cobbe, M.P., representing tho Leader of the Opposition (Mr Adam Hamilton); tho Minister of Education (Mr Fraser), representing Wellington members of Parliament; Hon. W. Perry, M.L.C., representing the laity of the archdiocese.
Bishop Brodie, of Christchurch, Bishop Liston, of Auckland, representatives of the consular corps and leading Catholic citizens, were present on the platform.
