RETURNED SOLDIERS’ AFFAIRS
DUNEDIN EXECUTIVE MEETS A meeting of the Executive Committee of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last night. The president (Mr A. Duncan) was in the chair, other members present being Messrs W. F. Forrester. W. K. Cameron. A. M'Hutcbon. G. H. Ferens, W. F. Forrester, W. 11. Thomson, L. G. Hill. R. Duerdou, and O. L. Ferens (secretary). ASSOCIATE DELEGATES. It seemed an inequitable position that North Island associations with memberships of ICO, or fewer, should have associate delegates at the Dominion conference, while the Dunedin Association, with a membership of 2,700, including a number of sub-asso-ciations, was prohibited from having such delegates, was the feeling expressed by Mr Forrester. He accordingly moved that the Dunedin delegates confer with the Dominion president on the subject, this being adopted. RECORD POPPY DAY RETURNS. Popov Day returns, with one yet to come, had constituted a record, reported the Secretary. The amount collected was £2,661 2s oil, as against £2,037 last rear AUSTRALIAN VISIT. Tentative proposals for the 1940 Australian visit provided for a party of over 300 to arrive at Dunedin on April 27, Dominion Headquarters advised. It was also possible that another 300 would arrive in Dunedin by car on April 29 (the day of embarkation) from Christchurch. The steamer visiting the South Island would arrive at Lyttelton on April 26. the whole of the contingent of about 600 to bo entertained there on that day. The same night the steanier would carry some 300 to Dunedin, and Christchurch and district associations would entertain the party left behind, and would arrange for cars to convey them to Dunedin. It was desirable to entertain the Dunedin complement by tours within the province until they departed on April 29.—1 t was decided' that the delegates to the Dominion conference deal with the matter as thought desirable. MEMBERSHIP. Eight new nominations for membership, an inward transfer, one outward, and one death were reported. Figures in the membership campaign now are; Christchurch 1,517 and Dunedin 1,311.
