WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION
A happy time was spent on Thursday last when the North-east Valley branch of the _ Women’s; Christian Temperance. Union • entertained the children of the cradle roiland their mothers in the institute. The meeting was opened with the singing of a hymn. The president (Miss Gray) extended a hearty wlecomo to the large gathering. Afternoon tea was served, after which the children \were taken to th® outer hall, in charge of the Misses Allen, Bailey, and Nimmo. Indoor games were played, and during tha sunny, hour- outdoor games were played in the garden. Several selections wer® given - by the' Mothers’ Choir, and solo by Mrs JBatchelor, MtS Maxwell playing the accompaniments. Adjutant Fletcher, of the Salvation Army, gave an interesting address on her work in England and in New Zealand. She stressed the fact that alcohol was responsible, for much of the poverty and crime of the present day. The need of the’world to-day was more prayer and more real work for the abolition of , the liquor traffic. Mrs Johnston thanked Adjutant Fletcher for. her address and the ladies for tho delightful music.
