FUNDS FOR IMPORTS
SOME DELAYS, BUT NO REFUSALS [Pee United Press Association.J CHRISTCHURCH, June 13. Although rumours have been current in the.city for some time that importers have been unable to obtain funds for the purchase of goods overseas, even when_ they have been able to produce import licenses, extensive inquiries have failed to reveal any definite cases. Mr T. Hyde, secretary of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, said to-day: “ I can .say definitely that I have had no complaints about difficulties in obtaining finance when licenses have been granted.” Mr C. S. Sapsford, district officer for the Department of Industries and Commerce, said: “ I have hoard those rumours and I am right out after definite cases. My inquiries have been chiefly among those importing for manufactures, and I have found no evidence of difficulty there, nor have I heard of any other importer being unable to obtain money when his license has been in order.”
Mr L. L. Jones, chairman of the importers’ section of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, said: “ I have heard of no definite eases-of importers being unable to obtain overseas funds, but it seems evident that inquiries for all amounts from £1 upwards are referred to Wellington. When the money is available the importer gets his allotment. There are delays rather than refusals.” LONDON DISCUSSIONS MR HASH TO MEET TEXTILE ASSOCIATE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 13.
