NEW APPOINTMENTS 'ANNOUNCED "(British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, May 18. (Received May 19, at 11.30 a.m.) The Counsellors of State, on behalf of the King, have approved the following appointments:—Admiral Sir Dudley Pound to be Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty and Chief of the Naval Staff, in succession to Admiral Sir Roger Backhouse, who retired on account of ill-health; Vice-Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham to be Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean, with the acting rank of admiral, in succession to Admiral Sir Dudley Pound; RearAdmiral Phillips to_ be Lord Commissioner of the Admiralty and Deputy Chief of the Naval Staft', in succession to Vice-Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham.
