LAWRENCE NOTES
[From Ouk Correspondent.] HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Lawrence Horticultural Society was held on Wednesday evening, there being present Mr F. J. Gray (in the chair), Mrs Cox, Misses Cameron and Haworth, Messrs T. H. Clark, E. Stevens, E. J. Weatherall, W. J. Milne, and Dr Sutherland. Apologies were received from Miss Hopkins and Mrs T. H. Clark. Office-bearers were elected as follows: —President, Mr E. J. Weatherall; vicepresidents—Miss Hopkins, Messrs F. J. Gray and E. M. Stevens; committee— Mesdames T. H. Clark, It. L. Cox, S. Fletcher, Misses Haworth, Cameron, Robertson, Messrs W. J. Milne, C. Worthington, D. Lynch, and Dr Sutherland, with power to add; auditor, Mr R. Gray; secretary, Miss J. Ferguson; life members, Messrs T. H. Clark and D. Martin. The next meeting was fixed for August. A motion was carried that schedules be revised, no further alterations to take place for another five years. Committees were set up as follows;—Decorative and industrial. Miss Haworth (convener) and lady members of committee.- It was agreed to hold two shows this year. HAEREMAI GIRLS’ CLUB. On Monday the Roxburgh Haeremai Girls’ Club entertained the district at at “ old-time evening.” -There were 125 present, and on arriving ladies were presented with floral sprays and gentlejiien with buttonholes by club members. Mrs Vernon (president) extended a welcome. Most enjoyable solos were rendered by Mrs Pennell, Mrs D. Dunlay, and Mr John Bennetts. A recitation was given by Mr W. S. Craig, and songs by four members of the club. Reminiscences were given by Mr T. P. Michelle, Mr W. S. Craig, Mr John Bennetts, Mr H. Waigth, Mr R. E, Bennetts, and the mayor (Mr F. A. Laloli). A “fashion parade” of six girls in old-time frocks ranging to over 100 years old proved most interesting. HOCKEY.
