STRAY CATS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l was greatly interested in an afticle appearing in the 4 Star ’ last evening regarding stray cats. Could not the Society tor the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals do ’ something for them? What does the society function for but to alleviate the sufferings of dumb animals? Of course many cats stray, it does not matter how good a home they have, or how kind one is to them. Advertisements or radio notices ‘ fail to bring 1 them back. A great many people are under the impression that cats are welcome in stores to keep down the vermin. Many a poor stray will miss • the kindly ministrations of Miss M'Dennot., who recently died. There are many like her, always looking for poor dumb animals to care for. Many people think it " sob stuff ” to mention the sufferings of dumb animals. They say, look after the neglected children first. Neglected children are looked after. Even the oldest, most decrepit cat will respond to human kindness if extended in an understanding way. It does not take much to feed a cat, and-they will eat up the scraps and not steal, if they are not neglected. I hope the article will awaken a responsive chord in the heapts of perfectly decent, though thoughtless, people for the better treatment of God’s poor creatures. Here is a plea for dumb animals. “ God bless all animals. Make us remember them, as we ask Thee to remember us. Make us not forget that they thirst in the heat, shiver in the cold, suffer weariness and loneliness, long for a caressing hand arid a kindly word, just as we do. And let us not forget, in the burden and heat of the day. that an animal’s heart can break. God bless all animals, and make us faithful as they, Amen.” I am, etc., “ Animal Lover.” April 7.
