Bell, Waiholu, when a number ol residents met to bid ■ hjra farewell on the occasion of his removal to Oaumr;u. Mr'Bell, who; was horn in the;'district, for .many years represented the riding on the Bruce County Council,, and in 1932 retired owing to advancing years and ill-health. He'has always taken an-interest in local and district affairs. Mr M‘Donald presided, and presented Mr Bell with a solid leather suit cgse. rand travelling rug. ’' ■ ;Mr Rutherford Blyth. who for the past nine years has been oh the staff of the Balclutha branch of the Bank ofi New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer, to Dunedin on promotion, and will take up his new duties after Easter. During his sojourn in Balclutha Mr Blyth has taken an active part in severah sporting‘bodies, including the tennis club (of which he is secretary), golf, football, and miniature rifle shooting. He" was also an active worker in- the interests of the Presby‘terian Church; and Ink services will be missed in, many directions. His successor in .Balclutha will be Mr R. 1. Lalng, from Dunedin. S.O. HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS. There was a fair attendance of parents and friends at the S.O.H.S. sports, and an entertaining programme, was enjoyed. Stalls were also conducted in aid of school funds. In additiqn to the championship events a number of handicap events were also run off. ‘ FOOTBALL. —South Otago Sub-union.— At the annual meeting of the S.O. 11. U. Mr U. Walker presided over a good attendance of delegates/ The animal report dealt fully wjth the activities of last season , and extended congratulations to the winners of the various competitions, tournaments, and to those players who attained representative honours. The balance sheet showed that receipts totalled £154 16s 6d and expenditure to £122 17s 10d, leaving a balance of £3l 18s 8d for- the year’s working. As there was a debit of £l2 Is lOd at the start of the year the actual credit balance was £l9 16s lOd. The improved state of finances was due to the aceeotable grant of £l3 from the Otago Rugby Union. The benefit fund showed a balance of £Bl 3s 2d. Receipts amountedto £67 10s, and claims paid out amounted to £49 19s 6d.—ln moving the adoption the Chairman said that the sub-unions trials • match being p’ayed at Balclutha had given a “ kick ” to football and created "renter public interest in. An application was received from the iK’wly-formcd Bruce Territorial Club for affiliation. Messrs H. Cakler, R. Flett, and Wendelken waited on the union to support the application, which was sponsored by Union an.d Clutha Clubs.— A lengthy discussion took place, after which the application was refused, it being considered that to affiliate the new club would not be in the best interests of Rugby in. Milton, where there was already a strong club. It was decided to play senior,' junior, and third grade competitions with a fourth grade if sufficient teams were nominated. Opening day of fixtures was fixed for April 29, nominations to close on April 22. It was decided that the levy on clubs this season be £2 a team, which will mean a substantial reduction to some clubs. It was decided to carry, on the benefit scheme as usual this season. Permission was granted to all clubs to play friendly matches before the commencement of fixtures. Clubs are to be levied the same as last year for referees’ expenses—senior clubs £l, junior 15s; third grade 10s 6d. A recommendation was made to referees to pay more attention to tags on boots, it being reported that some players last season were badly huVt owing to projecting tags. A.remit from Clutha Chib relative to altering the representation on the Management Committee vvast lost. —Annual Meetings.— Union Club had a good attendance at their annual meeting. The balance sheet showed a good position. Officebearers:—President, Mr R. Clark; vicepresident, Mr V. R, Clark; secretary, Mr R. Cullen; coach, Mr James Gray; committee—Messrs R. Sheat, E, Allan, F. Howie, N. Steel; delegate to S. Mr J. M‘Noe. The club decided to enter a second grade team owing to a number of players being new to the game. It was hoped that all fixtures would be fulfilled this coming season. Clinton Chib had a good meeting, Mr G. K. M‘Kenzie presiding. In his report he stated, that the finances were in a chaotic state, but lie was sure the new committee, with the support of members, would soon rectify this. Of-fice-bearers: —Patron, Mr J. Roy. M.P.; president, Mr J. Thurhnv; secretaries, Messrs G. M'Kenzie .and I. J. Fyfe; committee —president, secretary, and delegates; delegates to union. Messrs G. K. M'Kenzie and \V. Abernethy. It was decided to enter senior and second grade teams in the competitions.

Bruce Territorial Club. —A meeting,of this newly-formed club was well attended at Milton. Messrs J. Roy, M.P., and P. M‘Skimming were elected patrons; Mr R. Flett, president; M. H. Caldor. secretary, pro tem; treasurer, Mr U. .Cowie; committee—Messrs A. Aynies, Cowie, H. Wilson. 11. W. Fitzgerald, Wright, W. Wethey; Selection Committee—captain,’ coaches, and Mr R. Flett; delegates to union, president and secretary. A large number jot vice-presidents were also elected. ;
