GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
SEMI-FINALiST PLAY INTERESTING PROSPECTS The northerly breeze made conditions a little more difficult for the semi-final-ists in the amateur golf championships at Balmacewen this morning. However, the games were interesting, though perhaps not up to Saturday’s standard. In the game between T. W. Wight and J. W. Trewern, Trewern was one up at the eighth hole. Wight evened at the turn, and Trewem’e play definitely went off, Wight winning the*next five "holes in succession, giving Wight the game. The game between T. B. Ferguson and'T. C. Tyrrell also produced some rather patchy golf. Ferguson was three up at the end of the first half, but here Tyrrell’s game improved, culminating in a birdie two at the short sixteenth green, where he sank a beautiful 20ft putt. However, he failed to catch Ferguson, who obtained a birdie three for the next hole, giving him the game, two andl one. In the Otago Plate, D._C. Bennie has obtained decisive victories over bis opponents, and bis match Tyith Dr Ross this afternoon should be very interesting. The results of the morning’s play are as follows: CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS. T. W. Wight heat J. W. Trewern, 6 and 4. T, B. Ferguson heat T. 0. Tyrrell, 2 and 1. OTAGO PLATE. I). C. (Bennie beat F. W. Dixon, 5 and 4. K. Boss beat P. J. Gill, 3 and 2.
