Germany's “Stolen” Colonies

Hitler’s Challenging Speech

National Unification a Divine Mission

International Jewry Seeking Another War

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright.

BERLIN, January 30, (Received January 31, at 1 p.m.)

Herr Hitler, in bis Reichstag speech, began by recalling that 13,000,000 Nazi voters, men and women, supported him six years ago. The remaining 20,000,000 scattered among 15 parties, made a common cause with the Jews. The entire Western civilisation would have been precipitated into an unimaginable crisis had the Reich sunk into Bolshevist chaos. The salvation of Europe at one end began with Signor Mussolini, and the Nazis pushed forward at the other end. “Now we witness in another land the same drama of a courageous overthrow of a Jewish international attempt to annihilate European culture” he said. “To-day I can speak to the first Greater German Reichstag.”

NO INTERFERENCE!

BITTER LEGACY OF VERSAILLES

GERMANY “ EXPLOITED AND PLUNDERED " TAUNTS AT DEMOCRACIES Referring to President Wilson’s doctrine of self-determination and his Fourteen Points, Herr Hitler accused the Allies of adopting those principles whenever they could be exploited. “ Thus Germany is refused the return of her colonies under the pretext that it is impossible, and’; that the Allies will never hand the inhabitants to Germany against their will. No one in 1918 troubled himself about this.” Herr Hitler proceeded to describe his struggle for the right of self-deter-mination, resulting in the unification of

Ostmark (Austria) with the Reich. He added: “Our confidence in the new German army's speed and efficiency to strike was not disappointed, but even excelled.”

It was a gross distortion of facts if the rest of the world drew a conclusion froih these events that Germany had threatened other nations through blackmail. “We have not threatened anyone, but have only defended ourselves against the attempt of a third party to interfere,” he declared. “ I need not say that we will not tolerate in future any attempt by Western Powers to interfere in affairs concerning us solely for the purpose of preventing reasonable solutions.”

Referring to tho Munich agreement, Herr Hitler alluded to “ the initiative of our friend Signor Mussolini, and the readiness of Mr Chamberlain and M. Daladier. which also must be highly esteemed.” He referred to his unification of Germany as a divine mission, and complained that while primitive negro tribes were being protected under the name of- self-determination the decentcultured German people had been deprived of the rights of man, which in 1918 were formally promised them. There were certain world-savers—-governesses—who behaved as though the world was waiting only to rescue the German people from their present plight. “ The speeches in the newspapers abroad predict our death from financial trouble and from the strain of a credit crisis, and others predict a crisis in production and consumption.

“ These things only prove the

ploited and plundered for 15 years, yet without aid from colonies or help from abroad we have saved ourselves. Which of these westerners—European governesses—could have achieved that? We do not desire to export our system. It is our patent. “We certainly have no intention of attacking anyone or imposing our regime on China, South America, Holland, or Australia. But that is what the western nations predict. Perhaps they think we will next occupy the moon!” EQUAL RIGHTS DEMANDED. In a later passage Herr Hitler claimed that Germany had the same right as any other nation to open up the resources of the world, and declared that “ the theft of colonies was morally unjust and political madness. Either the world’s riches must be distributed according to the power of violence or by justice. Then peace would prevail, but it was madness to imagine that a few nations could occupy permanently all the resources of the world.. Such theories might satisfy the capitalist democracies, but not Gerpany. It was folly to imagine that Italy and Germany could be excluded from the wealth of the world. It was stupid to pretend that Germany could not manage colonies. He described the argument that colonies would be advantageous to Germany strategically as hypocritical. Germany did not want colonies in order to raise armies in them. She did not need colonies for strategic purposes. No nation could continue to exist without bases for food supplies and raw materials.

We want colonies for economic relief. If others complain that our economic methods damage them they must blame themselves for forcing us to adopt such methods. The denial of colonies forces us to seek national selfsufficiency, and as far as that cannot be realised to stimulate our exports. We must export goods for food or die. But the German people will live! We can promise a desperate struggle if we are faced with counter measures.” FOREIGN “APOSTLES OF WAR.” The Fuhrer announced his determination to reorganise the Reichsbank as a German institution, and to increase military efficiency. “ I do not forget that it seems the privilege of democracy to nurse hatred of the totalitarian States. We will not permit British and American critics to meddle in our affairs. We shall remain a sovereign State guaranteed by our arms and our friends. “ Germany nurses no hatred of England and America. She wants to live in peace with them, but they are continually incited by Jewish warmongers. There are people who were responsible for the previous war again trying to provoke war. If we defend ourselves against these apostles of war —Mr Churchill, Mr Duff-Cooper, Mr I ekes, and others—we are accused of attacking them. If international financial Jewry starts another war it will not end in the destruction of Germany, but in the annihilation of the Jewish race throughout Europe. ITALIAN AND JAPANESE ALLIANCE,. “ If Italy is involved in war it is absolutely certain that Germany will bo on her side. Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany will secure European civilisation. “ Germany has no territorial claims against England and France except the colonial claims. Only warmongers think there will be war. I think there will be a long period of peace. We are helping Nationalist Spain to avert the possibility of a Bolshevist Spain.” , “ Nazi Germany knows what her fate would be if the international Powers succeeded in defeating Italy, but Italy and Germany are strong enough to secure peace or resist any coalition. We are determined to defend our common interests together. The same considerations explain our attitude towards Japan. Her defeat would only bring a further attack against Italy and Germany. “ The colonics question alone would not justify war. England and France

sincere desire of the democratic nations to smash Nazi Germany. It is true we are engaged in a tre-

mendous struggle. With our whole strength we shall win; indeed, we have won already. (Cheers.) “ Our economic troubles arc clue to over-population. JV.e have .been ex-

in the autumn showed that they placed peace above the maintenance of unjust conditions.” “ IRRESPONSIBLE ” PRESS ATTACKED. “ If there is tension in the world to-day it is almost exclusively due to the agitation of the irresponsible international Press, which insists on agitating and racking the nerves of unhappy mankind,” said Herr Hitler. “An attempt has been made in the last few months to use the wireless for these criminal designs. If these broadcasts into Germany do not stop, we shall soon reply to them in kind.” Herr Hitler described the PolishGerman agreement as a constructive contribution to peace, and referred to the friendly relations with Rumania, Turkey, and Greece. He hoped Czechoslovakia would find peace and would not relapse into the tendencies of the Bencs regime. RELATIONS WITH AMERICA. “ Our relations with the United States suffer from a campaign of calumny for which the Jewish Press is responsible. I am convinced that the campaign docs not represent the feelings of millions of the inhabitants. Germany wishes to live in peace and friendship with America as with other countries, but just as she does not intend to meddle in American affairs, she forbids Americans to meddle in German affairs.” Hitler sat down at 9.23 p.m. SELF-SUFFICIENCY PROGRAMME ANOTHER FOUR-YEAR PLAN BERLIN. January 30. (Received January 31, at 1 p.m.) Dr Frick,* speaking before Herr Hitler, announced that the four-year plan of self-sufficiency would be renewed lor a further four years. J he Ambassadors of I taly and Japan were present. Herr Hitler began in a very low voice.
