INFORMATION TO PRESS
" NO RIGHT,'' SAYS CR SHEPHERD COUNCIL OFFICERS MUST SEEK AUTHORITY “ Officers of the council’s departments have no right to give articles to the Press without first obtaining the sanction of tho committee,” said Cr Shepherd last night, during the presentation of tho reserves section of the General Committee’s report to the City Council. He would like to ask the chairman of the Reserves Committee if authority had been obtained for tbe publication of a recent article about the reserves. The Mayor: I had a thought to ask the same question myself. Cr Shepherd; It should be more than a thought, sir. The Mayor: It would be far better, certainly, that anything given to tbe Press for publication should first have the sanction of the committee. Cr Shepherd : Might 1 ask the same question of the chairman of the Library Committee. Cr Borrio: I have given no authority. 1 shall look into tho matter and see that it does not occur again. Following further discussion the Mayor formally moved a motion that the town clerk bo instructed to advise council officers it was detrimental that information be given to the Press without first obtaining the sanction of the committee. The motion was carried.
