MAYOR PAYS TRIBUTE
DECEASED COUNCILLORS Reference to the death of Air 11. S. Black and of Mr T. Scott, both at one time mayors of the city, was made by the mayor (Mr A. H. Allen) at last night’s meeting of the City Council, when, paying tribute to both, he moved formal motions of condolence with the relatives. - Both had rendered sterling voik to tlie city, said the Mayor. The late Mr Scott was mayor during 1903-4, after serving eight years as a councillor. Mr Scott was a man who had taken a very keen interest in the affairs ofthe Technical School, and he had been a member of the board from its inception, or shortly after, right Up to the time of his death. The late Mr Black had served nine years as a councillor and two terms as mayor. He had been mayor during the height of the depression, and had always been willing and helpful with the unemployed. Mr Black had always entered into the civic life of the city, and during his term of office some big things had been done. One was the opening of the Town Hall. The decision to link Waipori with Waitaki had also been made during his term of office. Mr Black had never lost his interest in the affairs of the city. Tn fact, concluded the Mayor, the city would ho the poorer for the passing of Mr Scott and Mr Black.
The following motions were lliou carried, councillors standing in silence:—
“ That this council records its sense of deep regret at tho death of Mr R. S. Black, mayor of the city during the years 1929-31 and 1931-33, and member of the council for a period of nine years, and tenders to Mrs Black and family its sincere sympathy in their great bereavement. That this council records its deep regret at the death of Mr Thomas Scott, mayor ofthe city during the years 1903-4 and member of the council fur a period of eight years, and tenders to his family its sincere sympathy in their bereavement.”
