TRIED TO CHLOROFORM HER
PREVENTING ATTENDANCE AT DANCE PROBATION FOR PERTURBED YOUNG MAN [Pan United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 26. On a charge of attempting to administer chloroform to a girl, to which he pleaded guilty, at Gisborne, Frank Victor Michie, 21, a labourer, was admitted to probation by Mr Justice Ostler for two years. He is to pay the costs of the prosecution, £1 13s, and to refrain from communicating with the girl during the term of his probation. Counsel said there was no evil intent. The girl had announced her intention of going to a dance alone where prisoner feared she might be maltreated and he conceived the crazy idea of giving her a fright to prevent her going. Michie had been previously before the court on a charge of attempting to commit suicide. That was part and parcel of the whole affair with tho girl, and, like tho present charge, was indicative of his mentality.
