CANADA TO SPEND 50,000,000 DOLLARS Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright OTTAWA, January 25. ('Received January 26, at 1 p.m.) In the House of Commons, the Minister for Defence. Mr Mackenzie, announced a 50,000,000d0l loan to finance the defence programme extension, covering the (purchase of two cruisers, heavy gnus, war planes, and army equipment. To prevent profiteering, all future defence purchases would bo made' through the Government Purchasing Board, consisting of a business man and an army officer. Mr W. D. Euler (Minister of Trade) assailed opposition to trade with certain foreign countries and particularly favoured-nation agreements. He said it was vitally necessary for Canada, with her huge resources and small population, to find export markets.
