BIRTHDAY. OF NATIONAL POET DUKEDIN BURKS CLUB CONCERT The birthday of Scotland’s poet,Robert. Burns, was fittingly celebrated by the Dunedin Burns Club last night, when a concert was held in the Concert Chamber of th.e Town Hall before a large audience which entered into the spirit of the occasion and,gave the artists a hearty reception. It was * programme in which the Burns influence predominated, and it needed no more of. a recommendation than its inspiration.' Presented by accomplished artists, ib could not but be a success. The president of the club (Mr Arthur Macdonald) introduced the sneaker of the evening, Mr Alfred Walmsley, whose address is published elsewhere. ■ Songs comprised the greater part of the programme, all the artists, mostly well known to Dunedin audiences, being accorded rousing receptions. They were ‘ Star o’ Robbie Burns,’ by Arthur Macdonald; ‘ Ae, Fond Kiss, by Mis* Dorothy Mackay; ‘Gala Water,’ by Miss Mary Pratt ; ‘ The Lea Rig,’ by Mr Roy M'Dongall; ‘O’ a’ the Airis, 1 ' Mr James M'Farlane! ‘ Green Grow; the Rashes.’ Mr Peter Dawson; ‘ Bonnie Wee Thing,’ Mr Alfred Walmsley;'and, as a concluding item by the president, ‘ Sons o’ Bonnie Scotland.’

Traditionally, Miss Leonore Maokenzie capably recited ‘ A Man’s a Man for a’ That.’ other items being violia solos by Mr William Le Gal, 1 Song* of Robert Burns.’ and ‘ Gems of Scotland,’ and a national danod—the reel —by Misses Mavis Beissel. Phyllis'Low* Leola Robertson, and Norma Stewart. The accompanist for the songs was Misa Mavis M'Donald. who lent admirable assistance. .
