FIRE DANGER IN RESERVES

WASHINGS POSTED [Per United Press Association.( WELLINGTON, December 8. Coincident with the advent of the hot summer days comes anxiety to Government officials and the owners of bush, grasslands, and other properties by reason of fire danger. New posters are to be placed in the Rotorua district, carrying the following messages: “• Fires.—lt this tussock is burnt off the sand will encroach even further. Please be careful.” ” Fires.—These trees have taken years to grow. Why destroy them with moments of thoughtlessness? ” “A fire here will do untold damage. Your co-operation is required to prevent this.” “ A tire started hero will travel for miles. Please don’t start one.” The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Parry) said to-day that there were many persons visiting the thermal districts whose thoughtfulness and carefulness with camp fires, matches, and cigarettes would make it unnecessary that they should study the official posters. He mentioned that tossing away a cigarette butt had been responsible for at least one of the fires.
