Investment Market To-day

FEW MOVEMENTS SHARP RISE IN TARANAKI OILS SCRIP SOUGHT AT 12/Although generally conditions were lifeless on the investment market this morning, evidence of better support for selected New Zealand issuer was just discernible. Movements were sluggish, however, while business was again poor. Government loans remained easy, with sellers in the majority, but interest in banking scrip fell away. New Zealands firmed to an inquiry at £2 0s 6d, while Australians turned hesitant. Taranaki Oils advanced smartly to an unanswered inquiry at 12s, and sales were recorded in the north to-day as high as 12s 6d, a rise of 3s 3d on yesterday afternoon’s transactions. The gain was due to the statement by the New Zealand Petroleum Company that drilling operations at the Totangi bore were progressing normally and according to schedule. ; d Dominion scrip commanded improved attention in the industrial section. New, Zealand Breweries made way, firrp buyers advancing limits 6d. New Zealand Drugs 'were quiet on business at recent lower levels, Crystal Ices were steady, but Macduffs (ord.) dropped sharply, declared sellers cutting limits to 4d below yesterday’s sale pried. Australian scrip was - lethargic. Commonwealth mining issues received poor attention, although fractionally better support was apparent. Values displayed little change on the balance, while holders were scarcer. SALES REPORTED. —Late Yesterday.— 4 per cent. Stock, 1946-49, £9B ss. Dominion Fertiliser, £1 3s sd. Taranaki Oil, 9s 3d.
