Otago Association, Dunedin. Wellington Association, Wellington. Canterbury Association, Christchurch (South Island championships). Tuapeka Association, Roxburgh. Interclub Matches. Another round of intermediate grade and C grade matches were played last Saturday. The closest match in the intermediate grade was played between Tainui and Cosy Dell, the latter team just winning on games, sets being even. Cosy Dell won three of the men’s singles, but Tainui evened the sets by . winning three of the mixed doubles. , For Tainui Miss Williamson played'well to win all her matches, while Shand was the only Cosy Dell player to register three victories. 'An interesting match was played be- . tween Mornington and St. Clair, the former team winning by the odd set.' Players who won all tbeir matches were Mrs Foxcroft, Mrs Johnston, and Miss Stewart, Mornington, and Johnstone,. St. Clair. , The St. Clair men won their four singles and both doubles, hut the Mornington ladies were much too strong'for their opponents, and after winning their six matches, were mainly responsible for their team’s three victories in the mixed doubles. : Waimana registered another good win when they defeated Balmacewen by ; 12 sets to 4,' whileSt. Hilda bad an easy win over St. Mary’s. The following is the position of teams in men’s A grade and B grade competitions. Other grade positions will be published next week: — —Men’s A Grade.—

Notes. The .many Dunedin friends of Syd. M'Dougall, of Oamaru, will be pleased to hear that although he has retired from match play he still enjoys a friendly doubles game. Syd. plays a good deal with Miss Dora Miller, and he is giving her the benefit of his many years of experience. He considers that she has more than an even chance of winning the New Zealand ladies’ singles title this season. Miss Miller has improved her volleying and smashing, and has only to produce her best form to win the title she just missed last year. A. D. Brown, the New Zealand singles champion, has transferred from Auckland to Christchurch. In a ladder match played last Saturday Brown advanced to first place, defeating , C. Angus 2-6, 6-0, 6-4. Brown’s recent trip to England has considerably improved his play. Entry forms for the North Otago Christmas tournament are now obtainable from Mr E. S. Wilson, secretary of the association. The tournament is to be held at Oamaru on December 24, 26, and 27, and entries close on Tuesday, December 20, at 5 p.m., with C. 6. Meikle, Thames street, Oamaru. There will be the usual championship and handicap events, and also boys’ and girls’ championship singles. Through an error in the publication of the result of the Otago-Balmac-ewen ladies’ A Grade match, Miss Sommerville was shown as having defeated Miss Spackman, whereas the reverse was the case. In this connection captains of winning teams should exercise care when forwarding results of matches, and show clearly whether the match has been won or lost. Another feature is that correct total results are seldom given, and captains of. winning teams should see that the result as forwarded is correct. In ranking matches played during the week Sincock defeated Rawlinson, while Falconer had no trouble in accounting for J. Patterson. Germany may yet be a force in next year’s Davis Cup competition. According to a cablegram to a Melbourne newspaper G. von Gramm is unlikely to become a professional, and provided he can regain his best form he will, in the absence of Budge, bo the world’s No. 1 player—a very big help to a challenging team. H. Henkel’s decline this year is attributed to too much play, and his lapse from form is likely to be only temporary. In a cablegram to the Melbourne ‘ Herald,’ Henkel is reported as saying that Von Cramm is in perfect condition _ and anxious to resume his place in international lawn tennis. He would like to represent Germany in Davis Cup play again, and there was little chance that he would turn professional..
