DANCE RECITAL
A fitting finale to a successful year’s work, the recital to be presented in His Majesty’s Theatre to-morrow by the pupils of the Otago School of Dancing promises to pay tribute to the efforts of the principal, Miss Gwen Webster. No effort has been spared in the dainty frockings and effective stage settings. Always spectacular and much appreciated as past functions have been, this year’s presentation should do much to enhance the reputation of this school. The programme is varied and so arranged to allow the items to follow each other in a swift succession of colourful rhythm. Tiny toddlers will execute _ their numbers faultlessly. Interest is added to the programme by the fact that the dances are entirely original, and the costumes will be in perfect harmony with the characters and scenes portrayed. There it ‘ (Robin Hood and His Merry Men,’ in which the scenes of the Greenwoods will be vividly revived by the youthful band of green and red clad archers; and also the graceful ‘ Ski-ing (Ballot’. Providing a vigorous contrast will be the snappy tap items, of which ‘ Professional Rhythm ’ is a sparkling ballet by finished performers. The operatic ballet, ‘ Chopin Waltz’ should prove a popular number, typifying in action the grace and beauty suggested by Chopin’s melodies. These, and many more ballets, character dances, and tap numbers, will be interspersed with solos, duos, trios, comedy numbers, and songs. Those assisting are Misses Thelma Fiunerty, Maureen Keenan, Alma Johnson, and Mr Harold Robinson, and the orchestra is under the leadership of Miss Roma Baker. The box plan is at Begg’s.
