INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

VALUE OF CONSULTATIONS BRITISH MISSION IN PORTUGAL (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, December 1. (Received December 2, at 1 p.m.) Asked in the House of Commons if Britain would consult with Russia on the international situation on the lines of the recent Anglo-French conversations, Mr Chamberlain pointed out that Britain and France stood in a financial relationship which rendered desirable the recent Paris conversations. While the same procedure would not be suitable in every case, Britain was always ready, in the appropriate manner, and at the appropriate time, to consult other Governments and exchange views on matters of common concern. Mr Chamberlain was also asked if, in addition to the technical conversations between the staffs of Britain and France, it was proposed to hold similar conversations with the staffs of other countries _ to which Britain had military obligations, such as Portugal, Egypt and Iraq. Mr Chamberlain replied: “ There is a British Mission at present in Portugal for the purpose of discussing matters of general interest to both countries.” He added that there was already cordial co-operation between the British military authorities on the spot and the military authorities of Egypt and Iraq.
